Twenty20 Fans in for a Treat.....

I was watching the Twenty20 Big Bash 2009 and realized that the quality of cricket is really good and the crowd turnout also was pretty decent. This would mean that the Australian Cricketers have their own domestic version of IPL which would get global viewership with international Twenty20 stars like Ross Taylor, Shahid Afridi, Kiron Polard Naved-ul-Hassan also participating in it.

The fact that there are not too many domestic teams in Australia really helps as the quality of local players is also very good and each team, apart from the current stars, would have at least 3 players who at some point of time would have represented Australia at the highest level. For eg. David Hussey, Tim Paine, Jason Krejza, Brad Hodge, Shaun Tait, A. McDonald, James Hopes etc. In addition quite a few players would be known thanks to their stints in IPL somebody like a Quiney, Ronchi, Harris, Carseldine will also be known to the viewers.

To add to the positives is the lush green outfield and the really good Australian tracks which are a real treat to the eyes...

Now James Sutherland, the chief executive of Cricket Australia has announced that the Big Bash will not clash with international season in future. This would mean the Stars of Australia would be available for The Big Bash in 2010.

Well all you Twenty20 Cricket Fans are in for a Treat next year as the IPL and The Big Bash are the two tournaments to watch out for.

Enjoy your Cricket............

Cricket Tips

I feel in order to ensure that good players get decent exposure to international cricket, either or a combination of the following steps can be taken

1. Allow a 12 Player team where the 12th player will not be allowed to Bat. That way the team can play a specialist bowler who need not be good batsman. Somebody like a McGrath, Walsh etc. for that matter a specialist fielder or wicket keeper as well.

2. Instruct the Test playing Boards to chose a pool of top 30 players at the beginning of the season and allow non Test playing nations to contract two from the players not on the list of 30 i.e. excluding the 30. In this way somebody like a Brad Hodge, Sridharan Sriram, Hemang Badani, Boeta Dippanar etc. will still be able to play international cricket. The other advantage would be the quality of cricket will enhance. A team like Zimbabwe who has a decent bowling line up but is struggling with their batting can contract 2 batsmen.

3. Introduce a rest of the world test team in which best players selected from non test playing nations can team up to play a couple of games against the test playing nations. For example a combination of Netherlands, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Ireland and Scotland could be a decent side. That way the temperament of these players will improve. ICC should make the team based on a Ranking system.

4. In limited overs internationals one bowler should be allowed to ball a few overs more than 10 for e.g. 12 overs. Some incentive to the bowlers in the current batsman friendly system.

दोस्ती

Friendship is a treasure of immense value. a small poem in dedication of Friendship...

We often tend to forget the role that a teacher plays in our life. Here i present a poem dedicated to my Teachers

Tests - A Dying form of Cricket

I wont be surprised if test cricket soon fades off as with the advent of more entertaining cricket forms such as T20 viewership for the Test cricket has reduced. One reason being that there is always a scope for a draw (no result) so the excitement diminishes.

I feel in order to rectify this two important things need to be done.
1. Give better incentives for the bowlers
2. Ensure negative line bowling is negated.

My suggestions to achive this are:
1. Allow the bowling team to opt for a new bowl at the end of 60 overs
2. Bowlers should be allowed a 10 mins break after a spell.
3. leg side wides to be stricter
4. In an over only one too wide delivery (i.e. more than the ODI wide) to be allowed subsequently call wide.

The result of this is that batsmen will not have the luxury of time which they had earlier to score slowly, with the new ball due in 60 overs. Bowlers will get their share of rest and at any point of time there will be a substitute (obviously a good feilder) on the field.

Bowlers wont be able to curb the runs by resorting to neagtive line bowling so that means they will have to bowl at or close to the batsman.

RAAT - The beauty of Night

Night is the symbol of peace and quite For those who want to spend some time alone and think. Unfortunately like all good things night too comes to an end at sunrise.

Some people are scared of night. They say it is a symbol of negative energy. I feel its upto us to convert this negative energy into positive. All we need is to concentrate.

So I thought of giving a small tribute to this beautiful part of life that we tend to run away from. To the the beauty and peace of night, to those small sounds and lights that magnify its beauty.. To The Night.. I present my poem 'RAAT'

CA - A Course Deviated

CA... one of the most higly rated career options in the commerce field. What can i say about it... well for one.. Sadly it has deviated from the reason it was formed...

The ICAI was formed under statute in order to conduct audit, inspections, investigations and issue stautory compliance certificates etc. But now the course that the students are learning does not ensure that the student who is passing the exam is equiped to do justice to the core reason for the formation of the Institute.

The present curriculum drafted is to compete with professionals like MBAs CS and ICWA. Is it funny how non-core areas are given the same importance as core areas. Auditing and accountancy (core areas) are kept in par with other non core areas including Managment and Information Technology.

With due respect i am not saying that Info Tech is not important but my point is that there is no use if a guy scores 40 odd in core subjects and performs exceptionally well in non-core subjects and is branded a CA. The whole idea sounds absurd. A guy who scores high in core areas, just because he is weak in a non core area is not branded a CA whereas he is more equiped than the former to conduct an audit or do justice to the profession.

Its sad that the Institute has forgotten its objective. High weightage should be given to core subjects and low weights to non-core subjects. or at least the benchbark for passing should be lowered for non-core and raised for core subjects.

Irfan Pathan is a good batsman maybe he outperforms some of the porper batsmen in the Indian team. But he is not in the team. Why? because he is a specialized bowler he has to earn his place in the team by taking wickets and not scoring runs. simmilarly a CA should be specialize in audit and accountancy and not a Info Tech master (just an example; for that matter even FM)

The reason I feel this deviation is thst the ICAI is feeling the pinch of competition with MBAs CS and ICWAs. but hey come on the ICAI should not lower its standards just for the sake of Competition. By expecting a student to concentrate equally on core and non-core subjects they are turning them into a jack of all trades and a master of none.

A CA student should master Audit and Accountancy all other subjects are just to guide them to achieve mastery in audit and accounts and not to be in par with the two.

The ICAI is privilaged to have statutory backing but if sub-standard CAs come into market and frauds etc continue then maybe ICAI will lose its stautory backing or may have to share it with some other body.

Jaago ICAI Jaago.. The Satyam fiasco should be an eye opener...

Daniel the Kiwi Saviour

If i didnt watch cricket i would have mistaken the guy for a Engineer or a Businessman. Whom am i referring to - Daniel Vettori. Someone who averages around 28 with the bat and around 33 with the bowl in 90 test matches and yet is not termed as an all-rounder.

Daneil Vettori once again saved the kiwis from humiliation his performance against India with the bat speaks volumes about the character of the guy he averages 43 with the bat against the men in blue in 10 matches with a Highest score of 118. But he would love to straighten his record with the bowl as he averages a high 55.

I think the Indians better work out a plan to dislodge his wicket else it could result in a kiwi comeback with guys like McCullum, Guptil due for some runs and India lacking a 3rd penetrating quick fast bowler.

The Indian Cricket Team

The current Indian Team is on a high, with Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma Leading the attack with the ball and Sehwag and Gambhir with the bat.

This is what everyone sees. What i see is the other side of the coin I see a Bunch of Powerful Stroke makers who when the pitches assist bounce and in swinging conditions can be rolled over like a bunch of cards and also a couple of overworked spearhead bowlers (Zaheer and Ishant) who play all three versions of the game.

We are all jubiliant about our series victory in NZ but one should notice that all the pitches but for the last one were not typical Kiwi wickets with not enough grass to assists the fast bowlers. One can attribute the change in pitches to the great Indian fast bowling duo and the lack of quality seamers as far as the Kiwi team is concerned, but i think the defeat in the final ODI has exposed that our batsmen dont need quality seamers to collapse when the conditions are seam friendly and also that an overworked Zaheer or Ishant can be tackled on such wickets with relative ease.

Expect the Test wickets to be more like the last one.

In the Test series I wont be surprised if Zaheer and Ishant miss a game or two. I dont think the Indian pace attack is fit enough to play all three forms of the game. Ishant has already faced an injury problem. The kiwis i am sure will have fingers crossed.

No fast bowler, or Wicket keeper for that matter should play all three versions of the game. MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma should seriously consider playing only two forms. Its best all four of the quit the T20 version. I dont see the Indian team weaking with the likes of Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvi, Raina, Rohit, The Pathans, Karthik, Ojha, Praveen and Munaf still there.

All said and done like every Indian Fan I wish and pray i am wrong; that Zaheer and Ishnat prove their fitness and the batsmen show some grit and perform well on seam friendly conditions.

Wishing the Indian Team all the best. I hope and pray Sachin, Rahul and Laxman have pleasent memories of a series which might be their last in NZ.
